The alternative if you want proximity to Suvarnabhumi is one of the airport-transit hotels — the Novotel connected to the terminal, or the cluster around Lat Krabang. Those are more convenient for the flight (five minutes to check-in) but they are also charmless, expensive for what they are ($90-160 for the Novotel) and completely disconnected from any real city or town. You cannot walk out and buy dinner from a market; you eat overpriced hotel food or eat at the airport.
